“Carla and Stephanie have become successful by pounding the pavement and networking with industry peers.”
Ever wanted to be your own boss? Carla Mowery and Stephanie Elder did, drawn to the idea of being able to offer their own brand of human resources-related services. They put their skills to work and formed Gallant Background Checks in September 2009. With some good advice, guidance and support from REI Native American Business Centers, the duo quickly became an industry-leader in conducting background checks, drug tests, personality tests, private investigation, and consent based social security verification. Passionate about educating, protecting and keeping their customers safe, Carla and Stephanie have become successful by pounding the pavement and networking with industry peers.
Now a certified woman-owned business, they’ve built a strong reputation among their tribal, woman-owned and international clients by offering competitive pricing and unbeatable customer service. Initially relying on family members to provide volunteer staffing, the business now employs a full-time staff of 5 to7. Increasing from a first-year revenue of $10,000, the number grew to $300,000 over the next five years. Gallant’s award-winning service was highlighted at the 2015 Minority Enterprise Development Awards, where the business was named sub-contractor firm of the year.
“Starting a business and keeping it viable can be trying, even for the most resilient entrepreneurs. REI Native American Business Centers give minority entrepreneurs the confidence to take on even the biggest, scariest challenges.”
