Message from the President & CEO

Hello Friends,

2017 was an excellent year for our organization and we thank each of you for helping us accomplish our vision of “Enhancing Oklahoma’s Economic Prosperity.”  Our success came under the leadership of Gary Sherrer who completed his term as our Board Chair at the end of 2017.  As we wrapped up 2017 the board conducted its annual elections and elected the following individuals to serve two year terms.

Chair – Kyle Hughbanks
Vice-Chair – Chris Meyers
Secretary – John Harper
Treasurer – Bill Rahhal

Member – Fern-Green Bowling

Member – Martin VanMeter

Rounding out our board roster for 2018 are the four existing members who were not up for re-election.  They include:

Jeff Greenlee

Gary Sherrer

Greta Stewart

Clayton Taylor

We thank all of our board members for donating their time and talent to our organization.

On the heels of a great 2017 we bring you incredible news about 2018. For starters, REI Oklahoma recently became a chartered NeighborWorks America member, making us one of about 240 organizations in the US to have such designation.  Becoming a member means a lot of good things, but most of all, it means that we’ll have access to resources that can make our already strong programs even better. More specifically, it will give our volunteer Board of Directors and staff members access to top-notch training opportunities.  It will also open doors for our down payment assistance program so that we can help even more Oklahomans purchase a home.  NeighborWorks America is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and we couldn’t be happier to part of this powerful network of community development organizations.

91% of the families we assist are first time homebuyers. Kimberly and Ryan Hamilton were able to purchase their first home with the help of REI Down Payment Assistance. “Our mortgage company was in contact with REI and we did not have to do any extra paperwork.” said Kimberly. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!” Listen to their story in the video below.

The other exciting thing I want to tell you about is the fact that we received yet another New Markets Tax Credit allocation!  This particular project has allowed us to spur financing for some big-time Oklahoma projects.  These are the type of projects that have brought some top-notch manufacturing companies into our state, created both construction and permanent employment opportunities for our friends and neighbors and even spruced up our community facades.

There’s more about both of these topics in this month’s e-news. I hope you’ll take a look.
