We’re proud to stand beside JJ Gonzales Construction—a true family-run business built on hard work and integrity. Jose leads the crew in the field while Monica runs the business behind the scenes. Their son, Jose Angel, helps on his dad on weekends, and their daughter, Isabella, keeps things organized on the admin side with her mom.
Most Saturday mornings, you’ll find the whole family pitching in on a jobsite. “Running our own business has helped our kids learn the value of hard work,” Monica said. “No one wants to wake up early, but when we’re all together we have fun.”
Over the past year, Monica and Jose have partnered with our team to get bid-ready for government contracts—one more step toward growing their 15-year-old business after a recent slowdown. “When we win our first bid, it’s all going to be worth it. It’s like planting seeds, you’re not going to see something right away, but you will months down the line,” Monica says.
Their path to REI Oklahoma was pure Oklahoma collaboration and we think that’s what makes the Oklahoma economic development ecosystem so great: our community values collaboration to make sure those we serve get just what they need. Together, we tackled registrations, certifications and paperwork so JJ Gonzales Construction could compete with confidence.
“I appreciate the guidance from everyone, from Councilwoman Hamon to Elizabeth Larios with Gener8tor to Stefi Silvera with Greater OKC Hispanic Chamber and to the team at REI Oklahoma,” Monica shares. “Everyone has been so wonderful to work with, they’ve made me feel so comfortable. It took a lot for us to be vulnerable with them and trust them, but I’m so glad we did.”
Running a business is tough, but no one has to do it alone. We’re honored to play a part in JJ Gonzales Construction’s next chapter and can’t wait to see the bids they bring home.
